Building lasting change: Suyana’s 2025 Annual Report

Strengthening local systems, deepening partnerships, building lasting change

In 2025, the Suyana Foundation focused on strengthening the foundations that make lasting change possible: strong local partnerships, capable institutions and solutions that communities can sustain over time.

Across Latin America, Africa and Europe, Suyana works at the intersection of health, education and sustainable livelihoods. Its programmes are developed with communities and local institutions, with the aim not only of addressing immediate needs, but of strengthening the systems that allow progress to continue beyond individual projects and funding cycles.

From local action to stronger systems

In Peru and Bolivia, the Healthy Municipalities Programme continued to bring health, education, livelihoods and environmental sustainability together in an integrated approach. Working alongside municipalities and local institutions, Suyana strengthened both community capacities and the public systems that support them. In 2025, the programme also gained broader recognition, with its approach presented through the Pan American Health Organization’s Virtual Campus for Public Health and Suyana invited by Peru’s Ministry of Health to contribute to national discussions on healthy municipalities.

In Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Uganda, Suyana continued to work closely with local partner organisations, focusing on strengthening local capacities and accompanying communities through longer-term development processes. In Uganda, this included integrated work across livelihoods, health, education and water, with community structures playing a central role in sustaining change.

In Switzerland, Suyana supported farming families in adapting to economic, environmental and structural challenges, while also investing in education and professional opportunities. The focus remained on strengthening resilience and creating sustainable pathways for the future.

Shared responsibility at the heart of our approach

Suyana’s approach is built on the belief that lasting impact cannot be created in isolation. Local actors contribute their knowledge, resources and capacities to programme implementation, strengthening ownership and sustainability.

In 2025, local contributions to projects in Peru and Bolivia reached USD 4.78 million, exceeding Suyana’s own investment of USD 3.67 million. Together, these contributions represented 56.6% of total project value and came from families and local organisations, municipalities, communities, schools, public institutions and private institutions.

“Lasting change comes from within. It grows through trust, shared responsibility, long-term commitment and close collaboration between communities, public institutions, municipalities, families and partner organisations.”Ursula Kuhn, Chairwoman, Suyana Foundation

Looking ahead

Building on the foundations established in 2025, Suyana will continue in 2026 to strengthen trusted local partnerships, consolidate the Healthy Municipalities Programme as a reference model for integrated rural development, deepen its local presence in Uganda and Rwanda, and roll out its new data platform to strengthen monitoring and evidence-based decision-making.
