Empowering Dreams:
The Scholarship Projects
Access to tertiary education remains out of reach for many talented Peruvian and Bolivian students due to, amongst others, financial constraints. However, graduating from university opens doors to better job opportunities and improved living standards. Scholarships can provide these students with an education they otherwise wouldn’t have had, enabling them to reach their full potential and pursue their career dreams.
Objective
The primary goals of this project are to increase access to quality education for low-income students from vulnerable backgrounds, ensure successful completion of studies, and facilitate their integration into the labour market. Additionally, it aims to cultivate a sense of social responsibility among our scholars, empowering them to give back to their communities through their vocational training and professional endeavours.
Activities
The Scholarship Project provides educational grants to students in the Cusco, Puno, Apurímac, and Lima regions of Peru, and the La Paz department of Bolivia. These grants help finance their studies and improve their job prospects. Students are selected based on financial need, social commitment, motivation, and academic records. Thirty-three scholars are part of the programme.
We collaborate closely with various universities in Peru and Bolivia, as well as with PRONABEC (the National Programme of Scholarships and Educational Credit), to identify and support talented students. Suyana covers tuition fees, accommodation, food, transportation, and basic equipment costs. In return, students commit to social repayment through volunteer work.
Outcome and Impact
The project aims for successful graduation and integration into the labour market. Post-graduation, students work for a year at Suyana or a municipality, ensuring a steady inflow of qualified personnel in the development and empowerment of vulnerable communities. This arrangement also fosters a better understanding of rural challenges, and the work Suyana does. The growing Suyana community supports and empowers current scholars during their studies and volunteer work.
“The Suyana scholarship has been a great help in all aspects of my daily life and that of my family. Thanks to the Suyana scholarship I have been able to find this wonderful world of voluntary action that builds every day my social vocation as a future medical professional.”
