However, the sector faces serious challenges: around 60,000 farmers left the industry between 1990 and 2022, according to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office. This decline impacts the livelihoods of farming families and weakens rural communities, threatening food security and causing significant changes to the landscape — changes that also affect tourism.
