Suyana Foundation Promotes Reading and Logical-Mathematical Thinking at the La Paz International Book Fair, Bolivia

On Monday, August 3rd and Tuesday, August 4th, Suyana Foundation Bolivia took part in the La Paz International Book Fair (FIL), at the Children’s Pavilion of the Chuquiago Marka Fairgrounds, with an educational proposal aimed at children, adolescents, families, and teachers. Through workshops and interactive activities, the organization shared methodological strategies to strengthen reading comprehension and logical-mathematical thinking.

Learning through play: an experience for the entire educational community

Over the two days, the Suyana Foundation stand welcomed delegations from various schools, as well as teachers and parents. The activity was led by the coordinator of the Education Subprogram, Gabriela Mar Rojas, and facilitated by specialists Daniela Escobar and Elsa Quiroga, who addressed the key moments of reading comprehension, the neuroscience applied to reading, and the importance of developing logical-mathematical thinking.

Each day combined a theoretical phase with a fully hands-on space where children explored and directly handled the educational materials developed by the organization. Among the resources that drew the most interest were the “colorines” (coloring booklets), board games, floor games, and activities that integrate the learning of healthy habits through reading.

The presence at the fair also reflected the coordinated work among Suyana Foundation’s different subprograms. Alongside the Education team, representatives of the Health Subprogram took part, sharing with the public the materials the organization uses in its work with rural communities through educational resources for health promotion, bringing these methodologies to new audiences.

A methodology that connects reading and logical-mathematical thinking

Suyana Foundation’s participation in the FIL was part of the work carried out by the Education Subprogram through its School Strategy, aimed at strengthening learning achievements in reading comprehension and logical-mathematical thinking. The workshops made it possible to share concrete pedagogical strategies with families and teachers —before, during, and after reading— as well as guidance to promote reading habits at home and in the classroom, under the principle of “reading to learn.”

We promote the involvement and coordination of teachers and parents in children’s daily reading, encouraging families to embrace it as an everyday practice as well. Looking ahead, the organization plans to continue working in coordination with the educational community.

Commitment to educational development

With this presence at one of the country’s most important sociocultural spaces, Suyana Foundation Bolivia reaffirmed its commitment to promoting reading as a tool to nurture children with critical and reflective thinking, and to strengthening the capacities of families and educational communities.
