Suyana School Inauguration
Empowering Young Entrepreneurs in Rural Peru
August 19, 2024 – Cusco, Peru
The Suyana Foundation is proud to announce the official inauguration of the Suyana School, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the future of agriculture in rural Peru. On August 19th, 2024, we welcomed 42 eager students from diverse districts across Apurímac, Puno, Cusco, and Ayacucho to our newly established campus.
A Vision for the Future
The Suyana School is more than just an educational institution; it is a beacon of hope for young people in rural communities who face significant challenges in accessing quality education and sustainable livelihoods. Our tailored academic programs focus on providing students with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in agriculture, particularly in the face of climate change and economic hardship.
Collaborative Efforts
The success of the Suyana School is made possible through the collaboration of various stakeholders. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the district municipalities, local educational authorities, and the local community the National Scholarship Program by the Ministry of Education (PRONABEC) for their unwavering support in raising awareness, recruiting and transporting students to our school. Their contributions have been invaluable in ensuring that these young learners have the opportunity to pursue a brighter future.
Empowering the Next Generation
Empowering the Next Generation
Over the course of the next three months, young adults from the rural areas will engage in hands-on training in climate-resilient agricultural practices, learn sustainable business models, and explore innovative agro-tech solutions. At its heart are activities such as theoretical and practical courses on livestock breeding, agronomic animal nutrition, soil management leadership, marketing and business administration. Our goal is to empower these young entrepreneurs to become leaders in their communities, driving economic growth and fostering sustainable development.
The young scholars, aged 17 to 25, were selected based on their economic circumstances, their interest, motivation and commitment to the courses, as well as their family situation.
Looking Ahead
The inauguration of the Suyana School marks the beginning of a new chapter in our mission to support rural communities in Peru. We are committed to monitoring and evaluating the progress of our students and the overall impact of this pilot project, with plans to scale the initiative to other regions in the future
